Христианская секта, основанная как Библейское теологическое общество "Сторожевая Башня" [Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society] в 1872 в г. Питтсбурге, шт. Пенсильвания. Основатель - пастор Ч. Расселл [Russell, Charles] провозгласил, что незамеченное людьми второе пришествие Христа в 1874 открыло новое тысячелетие, которое должно закончиться концом света. Секта известна активной миссионерской и правозащитной деятельностью, настаивает на невмешательстве государства в дела религии. Носит современное название с 1931. Печатные органы: "Сторожевая Башня" [ Watchtower, The], "Пробудитесь!" [Awake] и др. Около 1 млн. последователей в США и других странах. Штаб-квартира в Бруклине, г. [dʒɪˊhǝuvǝz ˊwɪtnǝsɪz] «Свидетели Иеговы», религиозная секта, возникшая в Пенсильвании в 1872. Её основателем был Чарлз Т. Рассел [Russel, Charles T., 1852—1916]. Иегова [Jehova] — имя Бога в «Ветхом Завете», первой части Библии. Иеговисты считают, что надо верить буквально каждому слову в Библии, ходят по домам для ведения бесед на религиозные темы, считают войну злом, отказываются нести воинскую повинность или поступать на государственную службу, т.к. считают, что правительство не должно вмешиваться в дела совести, выступают против переливания крови.
